Immokalee Regional Raceway Outlaw Stock Suspension Shootout

Immokalee Regional Raceway Outlaw Stock Suspension Shootout

Immokalee Regional Raceway's scheduled race for October 21 and 22 was interupted by Hurricane Wilma.

The track was virtually destroyed with the 110 plus mph winds that Wilma brought with her.

Track owner Ralph Hester and crew did an unbelievable job getting the track back together for the test and tune scheduled for November 19th.

An Outlaw 10.5 and Outlaw Stock Suspension was also scheduled for Saturday November 26th and the Florida racers turned out in force to run for the 2500.00 dollars that the track offered up as prize money.

Here's how things kicked off........

30 cars registered to race in the event and we saw some great passes in the test sessions prior to qualifying, highlighted by a 5.20 made by the fastest RADIAL TIRED/NOS POWERED car in the country, Mr. Smooky Hall. On hand we also had the track champ Charles Manchester and the track record holder for mph and ET Pedro Apolito and Bum Harrison.

Several previous Shootout winners were also racing making this one of the quickest 1/8th mile Drag Radial/Stock Suspension fields in the country. You will see by the ET's that were run that the track was working well and some racers that previously couldn't get down the track on radials were making excellent progress and should be really quick when the next season opens in January.

After 2 time trials were run here's how things shook out.......

 1.  0008  Charles Manchester  5.23  136
 2.  2206  Mike Mckercher  5.29  137

 23.  8479  Pedro Apolito  6.36  87
 24.  3251  Chris Tedeschi  7.04  127
 25.  0518  J. Joyce  7.95 67

ROUND 1

The first round saw several open spots on the ladder due to parts failures by many of the competitors and only 21 of the original 30 cars entered were able to move on into actual competition. Ronnie Wilson, Nelson Capote, Terrance Whalen, Mike Mckercher, Sam Phillips, Brian Seitz, Dave Cox, Charles Manchester, and Haskell Makowski all recieved bye runs

Adam Louramore faced off against James Joyce in the first heads up round one race, Adam took the win running a 5.31/133 mph pass against Joyce's 6.66/88 mph.

Dan Hurta and his Mopar then faced off against Melbourne, Florida's Roger Carpenter and his blow thru CSU carbed small block mustang. The mustang left first but was unable to keep in front when a vacuum line effected boost managment and Dan's Mopar streaked ahead running a 5.79/120 to Carpenters slowing 7.18/98 pass.

Ed Feaster then pulled out all the stops by running 2-10ths quicker than his qualifying time with a 5.37/133 pass to Tony Ridenour's 8.26/56 pass, Tony had to lift after some problems getting the power down.

The man himself Smooky Hall then faced two time Immokalee Winner Chris Tedeschi in a battle of Camaro's, Smooky's PRD/Applied NOS Powered Camaro never looked back cutting a .468 light to Chris's .209 Red. The Silver Bullet than put up the numbers to show everyone what a 5.20/141 pass looks like! Tedeschi went up in smoke after the red light, looks like it wasn't in the digits for Chris this time but glad to see him back at Immokalee.

Pedro Apolito then faced off against Steve Edwards in another battle of camaro's and former Immokalee Stock Suspension Shootout Winners. Pedro got the jump with a .445 light and ran 5.34/135 to Steve's off pace 5. 96/132 pass. Car owner Bum Harrison and Pedro thrashed to make the round after busting up a driveshaft, great job guys!

Corey Berry and the C&C Motorsports Turbo Mustang then proceeded to Dave Nelson on the trailer running 5.79/134 to Dave's 6.14/115 which was a little off from his qualifying time.

John Fernandez had some problems on his bye run and could not continue down the track.

ROUND 2

Round 2 was delayed until then ext day after one of the Outlaw 10.5 cars had a very serious mishap thru the lights and the driver was taken to the hopital. He is now doing much better and will go home soon after surgery on his leg has healed. We Wish him and his family well and glad that he is okay.

Ed Feaster, winner from round one was a no show on Sunday so Ronnie Wilson ran 5.31/135 on a competition broke bye run.

Terrance Whalen's supercharged mustang ran up against the BB powered Nova of Sam Phillips and was up to the challange running 5.38/130 to Sam's 6.22/127.

Adam Louramore went 5.33/134 against Haskell Makowski's 5.56/130. Haskell was able to cut a better light but it did not make up for the steam that Adam had.

What came next was a treat for everyone with the class champ and his Small Block Ford against the World Street Nationals Runner -Up and his Big Block Chevy. In a classic David VS Goliath, Ford VS Chevy, Mustang VS Camaro, Small Block VS Big Block, Charles Manchester and the 8 ball were late on the light (if you call .467 to .430 late!) and Smooky was hooked up and going straight which caused Charles to grab the second kit and get by Smooky running a 5.23/137 to a 5.30/134! Great race by both racers!!

Pedro Apolito then was lined up with Mike Mckercher in another battle of Camaros and Pedro did not disappoint his car owner taking the win with a very fast 5.28/136 to Mike's out of shape 6.28/104

Dave Cox and his BBC powered mustang then had to face Corey Berry and his small block turbo mustang. Dave cut a .413 light to take the win with a 5.42/136 against Corey and his 5.48/138

ROUND 3

Round 3 saw Terrance Whalen up against his engine builder Ronnie Wilson. Both Mustangs are evenly matched but when Ronnie cut the tree down with a .357 RED, Terrance was moving on to the next round after posting a 5.32/134 to Ronnie's 5.38/135.

Pedro Apolito and Dave Cox then lined up against one another and left almost dead even, Pedro's 5.26/136 was a winner against Dave's 5.44/136 pass.

Adam Louramore then faced 8-ball with Manchester breaking the ring and pinion on the launch handing Adam the win and a bye into the finals. Adam went 5.36/133 on his pass.

SEMI FINALS

Terrance Whalen's Mustang was able to get by Pedro by running a 5.33 at 134. Pedro had to peddle when the camaro spun a little out of the gate and went 5.73/135

Louramore on his bye run let it hang out and ran throught he traps with a 5.36/133 run.

FINALS

In the final round we saw two evenly matched cars (both running a string of mid to low 5.30's) and two drivers that were cutting good mid .4 lights. It was anyone's race at that point and each driver cut good light with a slight edge going to Adam. (.4841 to a .4881) Terrance was able to keep up his consistant ways and run his number 5.34/134 to Adam's 5.61/121.

Congrats to all the racers and especially to Terrance for taking the win!

Immokalee Stock Suspension Shootout 9/17/05

Immokalee Stock Suspension Shootout

9/17/05

Biggest field this year in Stock Suspension at Immokalee proving once again that this is the place to race!

David Cox in his BBC Mustang win over 2004-2005 Class Champion Charles Manchester

.432 light with a 5.3685 at 135.22 to a .495 light with a 5.3316 at 135.91

This was Daves second race at Immokalee and his first time on the M/T Radials, Dave would like to thank Robbie Devane for talking about chassis tune ups trackside for getting him through 5 rounds of racing and into the winners circle, between Robbie, Dave, and Robert they were able to overcome some serious tire chatter and put the Spires power to the ground for the win and most importantly the cash and bragging rights!

Charles Manchester who's points lead could only be overcome by Cosmo Lanzetta rolled into the race with the Championship in the bag when Cosmo did not show. Congrats to Charles and the HOT SHOT Crew for their efforts in winning the points for the 2004-2005 season.

Congrats to Bum and Pedro on setting both ends of the Immokalee Stock Suspension Record on two seperate runs during qualifying Saturday. The 93 Camaro on Radials went 5.17 at 141 on it's first pass off the trailer to take the ET record and then on the next pass reset their MPH record at 142 mph!

Racing in South Florida during the summer months can be a tricky thing with the occasional thunderstorm and high humidity. We were only stuck with one of those Saturday (the humidity) as Immokalee Regional Raceway had it's final Stock Suspension Shootout of the 2004-2005 season. We also had a battle for the points championship that never came into play as Cosmo Lanzetta was unable to make the race; he was the only one with a shot to knock out Charles Manchester and the Hot Shots Pool Hall sponsored 8-Ball Mustang so congratulations go out to Charles for winning Immokalee's Stock Suspension Class Championship for the year.

Immokalee Regional Raceway averages about 13-16 cars at each of it's monthly events but for the season finals we saw 21 cars show up to battle for the money and bragging rights. The field was a mixture of regulars and first timers with a pretty even split between radial tire cars and slick tire cars. This was also the start for our new race director Carlos Zaldivar who kept track of the car weights at the scales and to make sure cars were legal for the class rules. Carlos only had one car fail the pre-qualifying weight check and the individual was able to get some weight bars in the car and make his qualifying shot. So all in all the weight checks were not a problem for anyone and Carlos kept them on their toes by doing the checks at random.

Round 1

The qualifying rounds during the late afternoon heat gave a couple of guys a hard time as you can see in the qualifying ladder chart with some being off of thier normal ET's by quite a bit. Once the sun went down and the tracked cooled a little we saw several guys get the traction they needed to get the ET's down where the normally are. Brad Schehr faced off against Ed Feaster, Brad had some trans trouble early on but was able to overcome it and won over Ed with a 5.77 at 121 to Ed's 5.79 at 125. Next in line was Paul Lucas and A. Mira, Mira's 6.40 at 122 was no match for the number 2 qualifiers 5.51 at 129. Nivaldo Capote and his beautiful Camaro went up against the Mustang of Mike Sapanaro, Sapanaro whose Mustang has run 180 on radials at a Fun Ford event was out of the gate first but could only muster a 6.80 to Nivaldo's outstanding 5.49 at 132. Our number one qualifier and new track record holder (both ET and MPH with 5.17 and 142 mph on two different passes during quilifying) was none other than Perdo Apolito, Pedro had the bye and took it easy with a 7.42 59 mph pass. Dave Fable and his Mustang faced off against John Sears and his 95 Sonoma, the Sonoma was no match for the Mustang's 5.60 at 127 running only a 6.81 at 100 mph,. Larry Burke went a 5.64 at 125 to Alex Altier's 6.30 at 105, Alex from Coral Springs, Florida was out in his Chevy II for the first time and ran well, we hope to see the car more often. Steve Edwards the winner from the August Shootout was on hand again and running well with a 5.52 at 132, he went up against Sam Phillips who was having some problems and did not get a time posted. Dave Cox and his Mustang were also out again this month but on radials this time and having a hard time getting a handle on the BBC power. Robbie Devane stepped up to give Dave and Robert some advice with the car and Dave making some chassis adjustments ran a wheels in the air 5.37 at 134 to Juan Rodriquez and his 6.04 at 119. The old 8 ball Charles Manchester found himself running against Mike Fabrizio and his TY Tech powered S-10, the 8 ball ran a clean 5.44 at 130 to Fabrizio's 6.32 at 116. James (SPORTY) Moore and his SBC powered Regal put Dave Nelson on the trailer with a 5.98 at 118 to Dave's 6.12 at 115. Last up was Dino Stavrinos and his Mustang against Pete Chevere and his clean gold nova with new BB power, Pete still working on the tune up and chassis for the car was unable to beat Dino's 5.69 at 125 with his 5.96 at 121.

Round 2

Number 12 qualifier Dave Cox faced off against Number 1 qualifier Pedro Apolito, Pedro putting up big numbers in qualifing was ready to move on but the was not the case as Dave put up a 5.52 at 133 (with a .406 light!!!!) to Pedro's transmission breaking 9.75 at 44 mph. Number 3 Dave Fabel faced off against James (SPORTY) Moore, ole SPORTY leaned on the tree a little to hard and went red running a 5.89 at 120 to Daves winning 5.50 at 129. Moving on to Larry Burke and Brad Schehr saw Brad dip into the old bag of hole shot tricks and cut a nice .449 light and run 5.82 at 121 but it was not enough as Burke ran a 5.71 124 to take the win. Dino Stavrinos put an end to Nivaldo Capote's evening running a 5.63 at 125 to Capote's 6.25 at 118. The Class Champ Charles Machester faced off against last months winner Steve Edwards in his clean Camaro (it even has the original am radio in it). Steve put a couple in the bank early on with a .497 light to Charles' sleepy .537 but the strong running Bennett powered Mustang of Charles was not to be denied when he ran a 5.42 at 130 to Steve's 5.51 at 130. Paul Lucas and his 1969 Camaro got the bye into the next round.

Round 3

Well with our number 1 qualifier out it was anyone's to win and Charles had his sites on winning the event on the same night he wrapped up the points championship and proved he can drive by beating the number 3 qualifier Dave Fabel.  Each driver was ready and up to the challange and it showed as each went a 5.36!!!! Charles went 5.3602 at 134 mph (.483 light) to Dave's 5.3611 at 132 mph (.492 light). After the round I talked with Charles and he said he looked over and saw Dave making a run so he stuck the button for the second kit and held on to win. Dave Cox lined up with Larry Burke for the next pairing, Dave carried the front tires again with the Mustang looking like it was ready to take-off at any minute putting up a strong 5.47 at 134 to Burke's 5.62 at 125. Number 2 qualifier Paul Lucas was lined up to take on Dino and the Chevy killing Mustang, Dino put an early end to Paul's night running 5.63 at 125 to Paul's slowing 6.27 at 113.

 Round 4

This round saw Charles get the bye run, he cruised to an easy 10.60 at 63 mph to move into the finals. Dave Cox was moving on now also with the chassis set up by Robbie Devane and was able to beat Dino with a 5.40 at 134 to a 5.73 at 124, both drivers cut .44X lights!

FINALS

Well here it was the class points champ vs the first timer on radials, in between rounds alot of talk was going on between these two guys and they did not deny the crowd of a great final. Each crew prepped the cars and readied their drivers in hopes of taking home the win, money, and more importantly the bragging rights. With each car doing killer burnouts and multiple purges the crew got them straight in the goove and into the lights. No staging games were played as they both got in pretty quick and were off in a flash, Dave Cox pulled the trigger with a 5.36 at 135 (.432 light) to Manchesters' quicker 5.33 at 135 (.495 light).

Dave wanted to thank his crew man Robert and Robbie Devane for all their help in getting the win and to Charles for putting up such a good fight.

A special thanks to Ralph Hester and his crew at the track and our new Class race director Carlos Zaldivar for all thier hard work and effort into making this one of the premier Stock Suspension Racing venue's in the South East.

Thanks and see you in Orlando!

Immokalee Stock Suspension 8/6/05

I was unable to attend due to a commitment my Air Force Reserve Unit this weekend, if you can help put some names with the cars it would be appreciated.

A special thank you to Nicole Deveane for taking the pictures!

Looks like a couple of new faces showed up to have some fun, hopefully you guys will help get more people out to race with us in September for what looks to be a little preview of the Drag Radial Wars that will be waged in Orlando this year.

Word is on the street that quite a few cars will be out for the September race and they will be using it as a test for their set-ups for the World Street Nationals.

Let's get as many cars out there as possible and make our final points race of the year the biggest yet!! Who cares what it runs, just get it out there on stock suspension and have some fun!

Here's a pic of Steve Edwards and his 67 Camaro

the winner from the August 6th Shootout. Haskell was the R/U.

Sam Phillips                                      ?????? Twin Turbo

Anyone know these guys and what they ran?

Glad to see the Mopar and Ford Ranger out there.

Here's a message I recieved from the driver of the Mopar,

Hey John,

The Mopar (Dart Sport) is owned by Dan Hurta, and driven by me, Randy Billings. That was it's first race ever, and we qualified with a 6.04. Raced Bobby Rhoden first round, and went a 5.97 to his mid 6. Went up against Haskell second round and headed for the trailer shortly after.

Not too bad for a first race. Some car info...

500" dodge, single plate kit with a 175 shot, 3250lbs, 295 radial, leafs with Cal Tracs, 1.35 60'.

We have since installed a fogger, and hope to run in the 5.40-5.50 range.

We plan on being regulars there, althogh Dan will be driving soon, as my Valiant is almost done. It will be a regular car there as well. We are both diehard racers.

The Ranger is Dan's friend Al. I don't know his last name. He was having some problems, and only went a 7.80 or so. It's basically a mild 302 with a plate kit, and has run a best of a 7.00. He is planning on a stoker motor for it soon as $$ permits.

Swing by the trailer and introduce yourself, just look for the only Mopars, lol.

                                                                                    Randy

Thanks for the info Randy!!!!

Ronnie Wilson wins over Charles Manchester 5.34 to a 5.44

Here's how it shook out with the 16 car field.

The first thing I have to say is that Ralph and crew did a damn good job getting the track ready

after a several hour rain delay. Hats off to the racers for sticking through the drizzle!!!!!!!!!!!

Some dark clouds and rain headed to the track.

Not looking good at this point for making some passes.

Jeff Prock decides to break the lap top out for some tuning.

Everyone going over the rules. Just say NO to ladder bars!

Thanks for the pit pics Nicole!

Only one round of qualifing was run due to the late hour.

Congrats go out to James Moore and Crew Chief Enrique for getting into the 5's!!

Saturday night was cool in the 60's and a little windy, it also marked the return of the Smooky Hall

and his PRD Powered Camaro.

14 entries came to do battle for the winners purse and each round saw quicker ET's and higher MPH's.

Round 1 had Cos and his TY Tech powered Nova facing off against the new entry of James Moore. Moore's Regal also has TY Tech power in the form of a 383 SBC and was just finished on Saturday morning. Cos backed up his #1 spot running a 5.52 to a 6.15 red by Moore.

Brad Schehr and his mustang faced off against Larry Burk and his mustang  winning with a 5.75

to Burk's 6.02 at 115 which was off pace from his qualifiying time.

Next we had Jeff Baserman and his turbo mustang racing Charles Manchester and his Bennett SBF/Wilson NOS powered 8 ball Mustang. Baserman was unable to get the car down the track cleanly and Manchester put down an outstanding 5.47 down to Baserman's lifting 7.XX

Chris Owens faced Virgel Valdez with Virgel getting a slight lead out of the gate but couldn't match Chris' 5.91 with his 6.21

Smooky Hall had a bye run 6.42 when Barry Sietz's mustang was unable to make the call.

Haskell Makowski and Joe P and his Chevelle were next and Makowski stunned everyone by running a 5.42 at 130 to 5.87 for Joe and his Chevelle.

Not to be out done Pedro Apolito stepped up his game also running a 5.40 at 136 against Gina Munden's mustang that ran a 5.52 at 130. Hat's off to Gina and crew for getting the car ready after a fire that prevented them from making their first run in qualifiying.

Round 2 had Chris Owens facing Smooky with Smooky staying in it for a 5.62 at 139 to Chris's losing 6.57

Charles Manchester faced off against the Credit Man Haskell Makowski with the 8 Ball coming through running a quick 5.41 at 128 mph to 6.38

Cos Lanzetta had a bye run and we got a chance to see Cos' driving skills after the car got out of shape on the big end. He ran a 5.71 at 100 mph.

Brad Schehr and Pedro faced off with Brad running a 5.75 and Pedro stepping it up one more time with a 5.39

Semi Finals had some good match ups between the 8 ball and Cos's Nova and Smooky facing Pedro.

Cosmo put 8 ball on the trailer at the March Shootout but that was not to be the case this time when

they left and Cosmo carried the tires down the track for some distance he got out of shape and Charles laid a great 5.39 at 127 down against Cos
